Contemporary Grass Garden
Redhill, Surrey

Seasonal colour is added through the inclusion of Canna indica and lobelia.

Originally the area was a dark, dry corner in the garden.

The site prior to design and construction was a dark, dry coner adjacent to the clients summerhouse. The client required a highly asthetic feature that would add interest and structure to the area. It was decided upon a grass garden due to the poor soil conditions which would allow the plants to thrive.
The construction of the project involved extensive clearance including concrete foundations, the erection of a bamboo screen backdrop and soil improvement. The planting scheme focused on a variation of structure, texture and colour through the use of a tiered design of grasses and bamboos that would be enhanced through seasonal bursts of colour. This planting strategy added a dynamic movement to the display which was complemented by an underlying mulch of granite chippings.
