Bog Garden
Redhill, Surrey

The site was originally a dry, shaded area of soil dominated by a large conifer tree.

Contrasting colours and textures add interest and depth to the planting scheme.

Light added a phenomena to the scheme, particularly effective with the specimen planting shown above.

This project involved the establishment of a large bog garden to adjoin the informal fishpond shown in the other built projects. The project breifed the creation of a linking garden feature between a fish pond and nature pond. The design was focused around a large linking bog garden that provides seasonal structure and colour through the use of architectural and grouped planting.
In order to prepare the site a large conifer tree was removed, a timber retaining wall constructed and the soil excavated, lined and re filled. The planting scheme is structured around a specimen Gunnerra manicata and Fatsia japonica. This is then surronded by a lower herbaceous understorey including Crocosmias, Hostas and Astilbes.
