A Play On Light
Conceptual Architectural Design

This shows the use of upright panels throughout the structure to cast shadows and reflect light within the landscape.

The technical axonometric above illustrates the various components that combine to form a series of sun screens, shadow panels and a contemplation area.

This illustrates the impact of the staggered upright panels in terms of the shadows produced on a summers day.

'Technical drawing was used to represent the architectural nature of the structure'
This project involved an investigation in the creation of spaces with a limited number of materials and processes. The project limited the design to 4 square planes, two large horizontal planes and a series of large rectangle shapes. Parameters were also set to the arrangement of these planes with any move enforced on the upper plane having to be replicated on the lower plane.
The design drew inspiration from the works of Nancy Holt and James Turrell in the use of light in the landscape to create powerful but meaningful features in the landscape. Upright forms were used to reflect light and cast shadows to create interest in all stages of the suns movement. This focused on the features astheic and emotions and the connection to the surronding water and marshland landscape.
